Eileen Owen received a Secretarial Science degree from Mars Hill College in North Carolina in l956, a Bachelor of Science in Secretarial Administration from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, NC, in 1958, and a Masters in Elementary Education from Francis Marion University in Florence, SC, in 1974. She has completed several years of postgraduate work at Francis Marion University.

Eileen taught at Bessemer High School in Greensboro for two years, at the Florence First Baptist Church Kindergarten for three years, and retired from Florence District #1 Schools in l997 after teaching public kindergarten for 25 years. She has been leading the Senior Adult Ministry at First Baptist since February, l999.

Eileen is married to Ted and they have three children, Terri, Dick, and Jan, and three grandchildren, Sydney, Grant, and Eliza. Eileen enjoys reading, sewing, traveling, and especially spending time with her grandchildren and friends.

Thirty years of teaching provided such a wonderful opportunity for me to influence the lives of children and to witness to them and their parents. However, when planning to retire from teaching, I prayed that the Lord would open another door of service for me so that I could continue to work in a positive way with others.

My opportunity to serve as the Directory of Senior Adults at FBC has been the answer to those prayers. Helping senior adults to stay active physically, mentally, and spiritually is my goal as I plan for and participate with our members in various programs. May all the days we live be joy-filled days lived for our Lord!
